The movie Confucius (Kongzi) by director Hu Mei, and with ChowYun-Fat starring as the main character, is a dignified masterpiece of Chinese culture. Telling the story of one of the greatest minds of humanity, it dips the viewer into the atmosphere of the ancient civilization. Nature, the cities, the buildings, and of course the personages of the story together show all the versatility of life before the century. Confucius (Master Kong, Qiu) lived in 551 479 BC in Lu State (Zhou dynasty lands). The motion picture describes his life and is full of profound statements of Kongzi which are applicable to the various spheres of modern life as well.

The scene of the movie which is one of the most memorable shows the meeting of the ruler of Lu with the ministers and lords. They decide the pheasants destiny. And Confucius raises the issue which seems more important to him the life or death of the young slave. The boy does not want to follow his master into the life beyond the grave. However, it is a tradition, and one of the ministers disagrees with Master Kong. But Kongzi asks him: why does he impose an offer that he will not impose on himself? These words resonate with the paragraphs from the Analects (Book V, Book XII). In Book XII the Master says Do not do to others what you would not wish done to you. The sentence has another context, but the thought of benevolence as a love of humankind, and justified attitude to the value of life is still the same. Confucius also presents this point of view in other scenes of the movie and his written works.

The episode describing the destiny of a pheasant and the boy is one of the most dramatic in the film. It is worth a lot just for the official spirit scenery and actors play. It feels like the viewer is himself/herself present in the hall and takes part in the action. The director uses close-up shots for showing heroes emotions. The environment (the placement) and its decoration are filmed in a wide scale (it gives the vision of pomposity). And every actor involved in the scene (the lords, the guards) has appropriate to the atmosphere and the episode costume and look. It has to be added that Kongzi is full of scenes when the moments tension is felt. Thereby, the Meis and the teams work is worth high evaluation. They have shown the drama of Masters life which was full of complicated and unexpected situations that required his fast and prompt decisions. The history of the movie Kongzi (1940) by Fei Mu is mysterious to some extent. In the years of war, the film was lost and remained only in memory of people. However, in 2001 it was rediscovered by the anonymous source. And after the years of its quality restoring the motion picture was presented to public. Kongzi (1940) is more than 75 years old. Although it has the undying plot of Confucius life story, it is perceived somehow different than the movie of 2010. This feeling is most likely to be caused by the absence of colorful landscapes, black-and-white scenery, and the personages costumes. Moreover, the quality of filming in the first half of the 20th century did not let showing all the specter of emotions which can be observed in modern works of the cinematograph. Today, the cameras provide us with the opportunity to feel the situation and to empathize with the heroes or to condemn them.

Some scenes in movies (2010, 1940) are similar. They may even have different plots but the same morality. For example, the dialogues between Kongzi and the ruler of Lu, the episodes when Master teaches his learners, his communication with family send almost equal messages (Mu, 1940). Just as the scene of archery calls to one another in the motion picture by Hu Mei. In the episode, Qiu seems to be explaining to the community that skills and accuracy are trained not only physically. One must use the mind, temper the feelings and attitude to become proficient in archery or any other military craftsmanship. People are amazed by Masters talents and seem to be attentive catching every word of Qiu and remembering it.

In comparison with the episode of 2010 movie, the scenery of the place and the scale of filming are almost different. And while in Kongzi of 1940 Confucius is the only key personage involved, in the latest motion picture he is competing with the Minister of Army. While arching, they decide whether it is better to hold negotiations with the support of 500 military men by their backs or not. And without any doubt, once again Master Kong provides the opponent with solid arguments for the point of view presented. Summarizing, the two movies show the Qius attitude to life and people, his justice, honesty, and fidelity. In 1940 and in 2010, Confucius statements are topical, and all the key scenes of the motion pictures let us feel it.

The General Secretary sometimes refers to the quotations of famous philosophers in his allocutions. And Mengzi is one of them. Jipings phrase about the diversity of civilizations has a connection with the 3A5 passage by Mencius. The Confucius adherent describes a situation when a young man treated his parents not worthy but buried them lavishly when the time came. The prominent thinker explains to this person that Heaven, in producing things, causes them to have one root (Norden, 1997). During the dialogue, Mengzi emphasizes that relative connections between people are special. And father and mother are the first people who show the feeling of love to children and perceive their sincerity in reply. The passage also gives the understanding that no matter who are you and what is your way of life, there are things that remain similar and subconsciously follow us always and in any situation.

Comparing the messages of Xi Jiping and Mencius, it seems that both men had one and the same thing to tell the society. We are all humans and have to communicate with each other in a respectful way even if the color of skin, religion, political views, and a number of other characteristics are unique for every person. The feeling of benevolence to mankind is mentioned in works of Confucius, Mengzi (and other philosophers) and it remains a significant and needed value today. However, every nation has its traditions, culture. And Mengzi provides an idea that cohesion of people with their nationality is important to the same extent that consanguinity in every family. Still, it seems that knowing the realities of the modern world, Mengzi would agree with Xi Jiping.
