The type of friends that one has tells a lot about his or her character, just like the saying goes “birds of a feather flock together.” This is true about friendships. What brings people together is what they have in common. A person always enjoys the company of people who like or dislike the same things as they do. Friends can shape ones character, this is because of the peer’s influence which exists among friends.
Good examples of friends with similar characters are people who love taking alcohol, people regard this as a social activity that is done by peers. These people tend to think in a similar manner and they portray a certain character that is common among them. People influence each other’s character both in positive and negative manner. The decision to give in to the pressure, however, depends on a person’s character.
Most people tend to give in to the pressure because they fear rejection or they want to be accepted by a certain group of people. This means that one has to eat, drink, talk and wear what the other members want. This highly influences a person’s character because he or she has to do what is acceptable to his or her friends.
Most friends tend to be in the same age bracket, they grow together and exhibit a similar character that is as a result of spending time together. Most girls enjoy shopping and going swimming together during their free time, these girls, therefore, tend to have similar characters.
If friends did not have a similar character, they would not be friends because they would have nothing in common to do when they spend time together. It is therefore, true to say that friends influence a person’s character, this is because, a person’s world revolves around his or her friends.
