Free Kubler-Ross Grieving Stages Essay Sample
According to Kubler-Ross, grief can be anticipated by the person that bears the grieve such as when a loved one is terminally ill. This however does not mean that the person will be forearmed to face the reality of the loss (Kubler-Ross & Kessler, 2005). However, Kubler-ross views forewarning as an important part of experiencing loss that results. The grieving process can be related to the story of Job after the loss of his children. According to Kubler-Ross, the processes of grieving are denial, anger, bargaining , depression and acceptance (Kubler-Ross & Kessler, 2005, p. 7)

Denial |
This is the first process to loss. The loved ones go into a state of disbelieve over the death of a loved one. The person in grief is overcome by shock and numbness (Kubler-Ross & Kessler, 2005, p. 9). |
In the story of job, after receiving the news of the loss of all his children, and servants, he cursed saying "Let the day perish wherein I was born...' (Job 3:3 king James version) this shows that he could not come to terms with the loss. |

Anger |
The anger that follows the loss doesn't have to be logical. The person suffers the loss becomes angry at the deceased, himself or the situation or even to God because He didn't take better care of the loved ones. |
Although job was angry at the situation, he was not angry at God for taking away his loved ones. Upon his wife imploring him to curse God, Job, refused and stood his ground (Job 2:10 King James version). |

Bargaining |
In the Kubler-Ross model, bargaining is a futile expression of hope seeking reversal of the undesirable effect of loss such as seeking alternative drugs for a terminal sickness (Kubler-Ross & Kessler, 2005, p. 17).

In the story of Job, after all the loss, job fell on in worship and refused to curse God, hoping that he would restore his health. Job said to God" Do not condemn me..."(Job 2:20 King James version). Unlike most people, after the disease persisted, he still maintained his faith in God. |

Depression |
During the stage of depression, the person is in deep grief over the loss. This depression is according to Kubler-Ross is ot a sign of metal illness but a response to great loss. |
After the loss, Job spent his days in the ashes praying, this feeling of grief was compounded by being abandoned by his friends and a doubtful wife (job 6:1 kings James version) |

Acceptance |
The last stage of grief of coming to term with the reality of the happening of the event. The person learns to live with the facts and starts the healing process. The person also stops being angry with God or themselves. |
Job accepted the situation when he says " Naked came I out of my mother's womb...LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD (Job 1:21 king James version). He answered his friends who were trying to dissuade him of his faith because God did not protect him from his misery that a man can't be just with God. This way he came to accept the fate of his sons. |
