The play ‘Zombie Prom’ is an exciting play full of pomp and color. The play begins with a feeling of suspense. It starts in darkness with some humming music in the background. This kind of style gives the audience a sense of eagerness and excitement for the rest of the play. One gets the feeling that something interesting is about to happen in the next few moments. I loved the beginning which is the most essential part of a play. It introduces the whole play and captures the attention of the audience. This play did that, and more. First of all, the background music captured my attention. If at all one was busy with anything else, the introduction would have interrupted their business and turned their full attention to the play and what was going on stage.
The simplicity of the stage design is fascinating. There are not too many props or material things on the stage. It has been represented and designed simply to represent a school, which is where the story takes place. The space on stage gives the characters the freedom to move around the stage freely. The design is very simple in order to enhance the effectiveness of the play. The play is characterized by a lot of movement and dance. The space in the design of the stage facilitates the activity and the movement, dancing and running around.
The music in the play is exceedingly enjoyable and sweet. It gives the play an interesting twist. As opposed to any other play, where the story is told through words, this musical play tells a story in a different way. The music also brings in a comic effect to the play. The dancing is also extremely captivating. The actors use the dance movement to act out their feelings, and the story. The choreography of the dances and the stage management was also phenomenal. As many as the actors in the play were, there was beautiful organisation. The dancing formations were simple, but very unique. The inclusion of many characters might have been chaotic, but they were perfectly executed. They had uniformly organised dancing and stage use.
The story begins when the school principal is addressing the students. The principal is firm and an extremely authoritative lady by the name Mrs. Delilah. She is introduced into the scene unexpectedly, when announcing to the students about the annual prom that was coming up. We immediately see her in her class with her students confronting them. Johnny, who is also one of her students, comes in late and has the wrong raft. He is warned to correct his mistakes before detention.
The story is an interesting mix of drama, comedy and romance. There is an intriguing romantic relationship between two students, Johnny and Toff. Their love is faced with many challenges, and they are threatened by their parents and the school. There is an interesting twist of events that makes the story even more interesting. They are in love one minute promising each other the world, and the next they are fighting. This depicts the everyday struggles of teenage love and relationships.
When watching this play, I get a feeling a child would when listening to a favorite song. It gives the feeling of dancing and joy. The singing and the dancing gives one the feeling of relaxation and entertainment. This is the perfect example of fabulous entertainment, with the best entertaining character being Johnny. His place in the drama is the ‘lover boy’. His character is exceedingly interesting because he seems somewhat of a hard core man, but with a soft heart for his lady.
The second play has a lot of conflict. It starts when the lady is complaining about the hotel attendant, who does not do anything in the hotel. He has been told to change so many things in the room, but he does not do anything about it. He, the care taker, is also complaining that she had given a specific time for things to be done ant they had not been done.
The stage design is also awesomely done. They have depicted an actual hotel lobby; it could be mistaken for a real hotel lobby. The lounging chairs and table at the lobby are well arranged to and the reception to depict a real lounge. There are also stairs that lead to the rooms of the hotel.
The story begins when one of the clients complain about the conditions of the hotel. She is a very authoritative and an unreasonable lady. She is introduced into the scene immediately, when announcing her complaints about the condition of her room. We immediately see her, in her sleeping robes complaining and insulting the attendant. There are other people in the lounge who try reasoning with her about her complaints, but she refuses to listen to them and storms out.
